FAQ
What is a zine?
A zine, taken from the word magazine, is a self-produced, self-published booklet distributed on a small scale for a niche audience. Mundane Mystics would fall into the category of fanzine/fandom zine meaning it will be a booklet made by fans, for fans.Do you have to be established in the community to join the zine?
No! We will look at everyone’s application and decide based on what was provided to us. Follower count and personal connections carry no weight in the decisions.How would I contribute to this zine?
If you are planning to apply as an artist we will be opening contributor applications from May 2nd, 2026 to May 16th, 2026 PDT. For buyers, we will sell the physical zine and merchandise on a dedicated online storefront. If you are unable to purchase the zine there will also be a free download of the zine available after physical orders are fulfilled. And spreading news of the zine through word of mouth is just as invaluable to the success of the zine!Where is the zine and merchandise being shipped from?
The zine and merch is currently being planned to be shipped from the US and Canada. We will issue a full refund if the buyer is from a country we are unable to ship to due to policy changes or monetary cost.How often would the zine be published?
This zine would be a one time limited printing with no planned future volumes as part of a series. If there is interest in possible serialization or a second printing, it can be done.Will you contact Valve about this project?
No. As fanworks in general exist in a legal gray area of American copyright and IP law, there is no plan to get into contact with Valve at this time. As such, the mod team would like to preserve the separation of developers, IP holders and fandom.
Any Deadlock development team members are welcome to purchase the zine but the mod team asks that it is not shared or posted about in any kind of “official endorsement” capacity.Will the zine be about character lore only or include elements of the game as well?
The zine can include character lore and some game elements (such as locations) but in general should be focused on the characters pre and post ritual enjoying their daily life.Is it required to have a social media art page, or is just Discord fine?
It is not required to have an art social media account. The zine will be organized and hosted via Discord meaning all contributors must have a Discord account.Will there be a section for cosplayers?
Yes! Cosplayers are welcome to apply with the page artist form!Will Trapper be in the zine?
All hero labs heroes are not planned to have dedicated pages but if a contributor would like to include them in their piece they are more than welcome to.Will this zine allow NSFW or shipping?
No. This zine will not have suggestive, sexual, graphic or NSFW content. All contributions should be rated as PG with canon typical violence/language/drug use/etc. Artists that typically create NSFW works are allowed to join, but contributions to the zine cannot be NSFW.
Shipping should also be kept to a minimum. Contributors are allowed to include characters that they ship together in their piece but works should still be able to be viewed as purely platonic by the viewer.
During zine production, the mod team is looking into possibly hosting a “Deadlock Ship Week” event for anyone interested in ship centric artwork.
